The Tolleth Home’s Story
It all began with a Sears, Roebuck and Company catalog and mail-order plans for the home Mr. Harry Tolleth would gift his new wife, Della in 1907.
Located in the heart of Downtown Meridian, this Queen Anne Victorian-style home remained in the Tolleth family until it was purchased by the Algers and became home to one of Meridian’s treasured antique shops.
From Sears to serendipity, Elizabeth acquired the Tolleth Home just days after establishing her LLC, Hidden Gem Events, knowing that she finally needed to pursue her childhood dream of a Meridian event venue and living in the heart of her hometown. With her dad’s reluctant blessing, “this is a lot” and “it will be fine,” the restoration of the Tolleth Home began.
Established in 2020, Elizabeth and her father, Tim, began preserving the home’s history and restoring it to its former splendor with the help of family, friends, and the local community. The project was put on hold when Tim received a devastating diagnosis of ALS. This home is as much Meridian’s, as it is his legacy. As a fixer, and an integral part of the Meridian community, Tim’s memory is honored by Elizabeth’s continuation of the work they began together. Opening the doors of Meridian’s Hidden Gem to become the home of the community’s core memories, a home to house fleeting moments preserved for generations to come.
